PRODUCTIONS FROM PADATIK IN THE LAST 32 YEARS
1973 – EVAM
INDRAJIT – A revival Hindi translation of the play by Badal
Sircar translation by Dr. Pratibha Agarwal. It was asjudged as
a production nearest to the idea of the playwright. The
setswere designed by Khaled Chowdhury. It was directed by
Shyamanand Jalan.
1978, HAZAR
CGURASHI KI MAA: Adaptation and translation of Mahashweta
Devi’s Bengali Novel Hazar Churashir maa . script by
Shyamanand Jalan and Abhijt Dutta and directed by Shyanand
Jalan.
1980 –
SHAKUNTALA: Hindi translation by Mohan Rakesh of the original
Sanskrit play by Kalidas. Play was directed by Shyamnand
Jalan.Choreography was by Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra and Music
by Girija Devi. In Shakuntala the director tried to focus on
the Rasa theory of Bharata Natya Shastra and such combine
dance music and ahinaya.
1980 KAUWA CHALA
HANS KI CHAL : Adaptation of Moliere’s Le Bougeois
Gentilhomme. Acted and directed by Shyamnand Jalan, the play
was revived in 1998
1983 ADHEY
ADHURE: Written by Mohan Rakesh and directed and acted by
Shyamanand Jalan in the lead role. As outstanding modern
Indian play deals with the eternal conflict between man and
woman. Chetna Jalan is the protagonist of the play.
1988 RAJA LEAR :
Shakespeare’s King Lear translated by Akshay Upadhayay. The
play was directed by Fritz Bennewitz and designed by Franz
Havemanr Shyamanand Jalan acted in the lead role.
1991 – SHAKHARAM
BINDER : An explosive play which has attracted for its
scathing attack on moral hypocrisy. The story of a middle aged
man who does not believe in love, trust, support or other
emotional values in a man-woman relationship but sees only as
a contract of give and take. The cast includes Kalbhushan
Kharbanda , the well known film actor along with Chetna Jalan
and popular artists of Pandatik Rpertory.
1990-
BAARISHWALA: A famous American romantic comedy which brings
the messege of hope and trust when things around us seem
altogether too dry and bleak translated by Ranjit Kapoor from
Richard Nash’s “The Rainmaker”, directed by Rodney Marriot and
designed by Christopher Barreca , both from USA. It received
the best theatre award from the Government of West Bengal.
1995- RAMKATHA
RAMKAHANI : An extravaganza , using dancing , acting and
singing as integral parts of the production Directed by
Shyamanand Jalan and choreography by Chetna Jalan. Padatik
toured various parts of the country with this production.
2000- KHAMOSHI
ADALAT JAARI HAI: A revival of Marathi Play “Court Chala Aahe”
by Vijay Tendulkar, directed and acted in the lead role by
Shyamanand jalan while Chetna Jalan acted in the main role
against him.
