DESCRIPTION

Padatik has been active in the field of theatre. As a theatre group, it presents nearly 80 shows every year in different parts of India. Its founder director Sri Shyamanand Jalan, well known theatre personality is a Sangeet Natak Academy Awardees.

Shakespeare’s “King Lear” , Vijay Tendulkar’s “ Sakharam Binder” & “ Kanyadaan Moliere’s “School for wives”, and Padatik’s two productions “Baarishwala” and “ Sakharam Binder” received critical acclaim. Directed by the noted American director Rodney Marriot, “ Baarishwala” received the best production award for 1990 from the West Bengal Government “Sakharam Binder” , a revival directed by Shyamanand Jalan with Kulbhusan Kharbanda in the lead has had a very successful run is Calcutta , Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Luck now.

Besides Shri Jalan Padatik has three other directors working with it. They are:

Vinay Sharma, producing under the name of Rikh, whose productions include “Ek Anarchist Ki Lttfaquia Maut”, “ Go dot Ka Intezaar Karte Huye”, “Mr.Biederman Al Aag Laganewale, “ John Gabriel Bork man and others.

Kunal Padhi, producing under the name of Brain Child, whose productions include “Gali Chahat Wali”, Yeh Zindegi Aakhir Kiski”, “Mid Summer Night’s Dream”, Wada Chirebandi”, Thaneer Thaneer “ etc.

Pradip Roy, whose productions include, “Chhoo Mantar” and “Ballabhpur Ki Roopkatha”.

Padatik organized International Festival and Seminar on Theatre Dance and Martia Arts in 1987 and Lokotsav in1986. It also organized International Seminar on India Dance Traditions and Modern Theatre in collaboration with International Theatre Institute (UNESCO) in1983

Padatik receives a regular grant for salary from the Department of Culture Govt. of India.
