This innovative choreography has been conceived and directed by Pt. Vijay Shankar, set in a charmingly haunting milieu, inthe midst of rhythm and harmony. This known story has now crossed national boundzries. A modern young man comes to live in a derelict old palace , which is in habited by the spirit of beautiful and tortured woman. At first a sceptic , the young man is enticed and allured.

By the lost sou into her own world…. Kshudito Pashan is a strange love story…

This choreography shows conflict between our culture and western culture. The item depicts the deep roots of our classical dance heritage. Disciples of a classical dance ‘Gurukula’ are devotedly pursuing their training when they are invaded by the alien distortions and few of them do get distracted.

Agni covers a span of time beginning with Man’s discovery of ‘Fire’ by rubbing of stones until today when the fire is consuming him from within as also out on the open streets in the form of bride-burning sel-emolution and in the queques for his ration of rights. Agni introduces a new vocabulary to portray this challenging theme.

Based on the Greek Myth about a man falling to the earth with scorehed limbs, in his attempt to fly to the sun. It sued the duet between Pt. Ravi Shankar and Mr. Yahudi Menhuin as its musical base. In this item the Chhau movements have been modified by the Kathak sensibilities of the dancers.

Maharas

Pt. Vijay Shankar

Maharas is based on the very old Kavita which describes Lord Krishna’s “Raas Lila”. This was danced at the time of Sharad Purnima. The melody is composed in Rag- Megh, Sarang, Bageshwari and Abhogi, set in Kaharava, Ek Taal, Dharmar and Teel Tal.

A choreographic glimpses of Kathak as a dance form. Kathak has many portions like Amad, Tora , Tukra, Parans, Tihasis, Lari, Get, Gat Nikas, Thumri etc. Normally is a solo form dancers dance these pieces separately. All these small portions are woven together in a complete item which helps people to understand and appreciate Kathak.

A search of Harmony in dance recital where the melody and the rhythm of the dance while retaining their independent identities, create a harmonious blend without being subjugated by each other. The ‘bols’ also have emotions and there is also an attempt to convey them through dance.
