teaching classes
Padatik Dance Centre is
seriously involved in imparting training in Kathak and
encouraging creativity under the supervision of its Director
Smt. Chetna Jalan who is a renowned Kathak exponent. The
teaching facility of Padatik Dance Centre is affiliated to
Nalanda Dance Research Centre (Mumbai) which runs diploma
course and centre. The legendary Kathak maestro Pt. Birju
Maharaj has been associated with Padatik Dance Centre from
1998 and since then he has been grooming out students by
conducting workshop. The legendary guru Padmabhushan
Kelucharan Mahapatra who brought Odissi for the first time to
Kolkata, conducted long workshop at Padatik Dance Centre “Geet
Govindam” in Odissi choreographed by Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra
can be considered as a classic production of Padatik Dance
Centre.
The centre has its own
music-recording studio. Some of its best productions are “
Ramkatha Ramkahani” , “ Ardhashati” , “Kshudito Pashan” , “
Uilas” , “ Vishad”,” Mand” etc.
Padatik Dance Centre is
supported by a regular grant for salary from the Department of
Culture, Government of India it also receives grants from the
Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
Padatik Dance Centre group was
invited at many major festivals like the Imphal Mahotsav by
Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Kathak Mahotsav by Kathak
Kendra, New Delhi, etc.
Padatik Dance Centre has also
given shows abroad. Through ICCR, Padatik Dance Centre’s
director Smt. Chetna Jalan along with her Kathak troupe was
invited to perform a full-length show at the prestigious
Kuopio Dance Festival in Finland held in 1989 at Kuopio. They
performed in Kuopio, Lappenranta and Helsinki. Later the
troupe performed at Osio (Norway). Finally, Chetna Jalan gave
her solo performance in Birmingham (UK) and West Berlin.
Later, Padatik Dance Centre troupe was also invited to perform
at seol, Korea, Hong Kong and Bangkok.
From time to time, many
stalwans from the field of dance had performed at Padatik
Little Theatre. Padmashree Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra with
Lakshmipriya Mahapatra (Odissi), Kalamandalam P Govindam Kutty
(Kathakali), Pt. Vijay Shankar (Kathak), Rani Karnaa (Kathak),
Swapna Sundari (Bharatnatyam), Sitara Devi (Kathak), Dr. C. V.
Chandrasekhar (Bharatnatyam), Sanjukta Panigrahi (Odissi),
Menaka Thakkar (Bharatnatyam), Astad Deboo (Modern Dance),
Guru Vempat China Satyam (Kuchipudi), Manjushree Chaki Sarkar
(Modern Dance), Sona Mansingh and many such great gurus have
performed at Padatik in early days.
